HOW TO: Update the firmware on a Deltacast card

Before drivers 6.17

Before drivers 6.17, there was an application that was checking for Firmware Upgrade and performing them. You just needed to follow the instructions on screen.

With drivers 6.17 or later

With drivers 6.17, firmware upgrade will be mostly automatic, it will be automatically performed when you restart your computer after installing a driver that requires a firmware upgrade. A few important info:

• Do NOT restart the Mac while the firmware upgrade is in process. See below how to check this.
• If you connect the Deltacast card after the computer has started, the automatic firmware upgrade won't be done. You will have to either restart the computer or do the manual procedure below.

Check if a Firmware upgrade is in process

The only way to do that is to do the following request in Terminal (requires admin password):

sudo '/Library/Application Support/Deltacast/FWUpdater.app/Contents/MacOS/FWUpdater' -d -c

If it returns an "Error: Update in progress" as below:

Wait a little bit and then try again.

If you receive the following error:

It probably means that you have not allowed the kernel extension to load. See the following article to fix this.

Once the Firmware upgrade is done, and that there is no error, it should show this:

Once you see that, you are safe to restart the computer.

Perform a Firmware upgrade manually

If you have connected your card after the computer has started, you may need to do the firmware upgrade manually. First check if it's required

Check if a Firmware upgrade is required

To check if a firmware upgrade is required

• Start the application "Terminal" and type this:

sudo '/Library/Application Support/Deltacast/FWUpdater.app/Contents/MacOS/FWUpdater' -d -c

• You will be prompted for your admin password.
• If you receive a message saying that an upgrade is in progress, then the firmware upgrade has already started automatically. Do NOT restart or unplug the device. Wait for the upgrade to be completed. See the steps above to check what to do when an upgrade is in process.

• If you receive the following error:

  It probably means that you have not allowed the kernel extension to load. See the following article to fix this.

• If no upgrade is in process, you should see something like this:
• This is the list of devices that are connected to the Mac as well as the possible reconfigurations.
• Check what is stated in regard to the "Update needed" info:
  • If it says YES, then follow the steps below to do the firmware update
  • If it says NO, then you have nothing to do.

Perform the Firmware upgrade

If in Terminal you saw that a Firmware upgrade was needed, simply type the following in the Terminal Application:

sudo '/Library/Application Support/Deltacast/FWUpdater.app/Contents/MacOS/FWUpdater' --update

• You should see a firmware reflash status, and when completed it should look like this:
• Once completed, restart the Mac.

That's it, your card should be reconfigured with the appropriate Firmware.
