Keying with AJA
With AJA cards, there are a few things to know to achieve keying, please read the following article.
About Audio Routing (AJA devices only)
On AJA devices, the Audio Routing feature enables you to select what audio will be sent to the output when using "Internal Key". For example, when you do a picture in picture, you will want to be able to tell the application whether you want to hear:
- the sound that is getting into the card (coming from the studio for example)
- OR if you want to hear the sound of the clip that you play in OnTheAir Video, OnTheAir CG.
Note that only AJA cards have that feature and none of the Blackmagic-Design card has the audio routing feature, and you will then always hear the audio that is getting in the input, never the audio of the clips you play. This is an important limitation that you should be aware of.
If you want to hear both the sound that is getting in the input AND the audio of the clips, you will have to either:
- use external Key and make sure that the device doing the keying will support to mix the audio from both the video source and the key
- use the new "Live Input" feature available since OnTheAir CG 3.1 or OnTheAir Video 3.3. In that case both sounds are mixed. But be aware that there is a delay of 5-10 frames between the moment the frames get in the input and when they are outputted back. We will work on improving that delay, so get back in touch with us to see if that delay still there.
