The Deltacast card included in the M|8i and M|4i bundles is the DELTA-12G-elp-h 4c card. It supports:
- in HD, up to 8 channels of 1080p60
- or 4 Fill & Key outputs
- in 4K, up to 4 channels of UHD60p
- in 8K, up to 1 channels of 4320p60 [8K] using Quad Link (SQ)
This card has 8 connectors in total:
- 4 of them are 3G connectors, which support HD only
- the 4 others are 12G connectors, capable of 4K resolution [or 1 combined 8k]
Thunderbolt Chassis Limitations
When using the card in a Thunderbolt expansion chassis, the card will be limited to the bandwidth of the Thunderbolt, and you won't be able to use the 4 channels of 4K60. Make sure to check the tech specs page of the bundles to know the maximum number of channels.
The M|8i and M|4i consist of the Deltacast card along with the required software licenses on a dongle.
Cabling guides
For "Regular" input/output:
For "Keying" output:
The Deltacast 12G/4C supports to output Fill & Key in HD (SD and 4K not supported yet). In that case you will select one of the output shown in black in the following screenshot, this will be your "Fill" output, and it will automatically pair with the grey connector with the same number:
Note that support for External key requires OnTheAir Video 4.5.7 or later and OnTheAir CG Server 3.8 or later. In Output settings, select the "YUVA4224 8bit" pixel format.
4K Usage Warnings
Only connectors 1, 3, 5, and 7 support 4K signals.
However, connectors work in pairs:
- Connector 1 pairs with 2, 3 with 4, 5 with 6, and 7 with 8
- So for example, when using connector 1 in 4K, you must not enable connector 2
- Doing so may interfere with signal integrity
You can still create mixed-resolution configurations. For example, use connector 1 in 4K, and connectors 3 through 8 in HD.
- Extra note when using a Thunderbolt 3 chassis: The max number of channels in 4K will be 4 channels of 4K30, or 2 channels of 4K60. To capture 4 channels of 4K60, you’ll need a full-bandwidth PCI Express slot in a Mac Pro.
8K Usage Warnings
Only connectors 1, 3, 5 and 7 combined support 8K Quad-Link (Square Division) input.
To setup 8K in MovieRecorder:
Enable only input 1. Enabling any other inputs (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) may compromise signal integrity.
On Input 1, open Source Settings, disable “Automatically detect input format,” and manually select the 8K resolution and frame rate under Video Format.
Extra note when using a Thunderbolt 3 chassis: The max resolution will be 8K 30 fps; to capture higher framerates up to 8K 60 fps, you’ll need a full-bandwidth PCI Express slot in a Mac Pro.
