Copy protection 2024. What's new?

In February 2025 we started releasing applications with the new activation system.

Both the new and old systems require to activate a serial number to be able to use it on one computer (and one computer only) and  then release (or deactivate) it when you want to move the license to another computer. 

But the new activation system is much easier to use. See the main differences below.

Old System

In the old system:

1. An activation could be lost if for example you reformatted your hard drive (and forgot to deactivate first), or if the device was broken or stolen. Recovering it required a replacement process that could be tedious, and which was done only once.
2. You needed to keep all your serials somewhere, make sure not to loose them, and sometimes users would not remember where they last activated the license, which could lead to issue recovering the license.
3. Anyone with the serial number could use it, which sometimes led to unauthorized or illegal usage.
4. There was some confusion with licenses from serial numbers or dongles.

New System

The Softron License Manager greatly improves this:

1. To address the potential loss of activations, the activations are now temporary, and require a frequent internet connection (with some margin of course). This means that you can now "Force Release" or "Reactivate" a serial if you reformatted your computer, or if it is broken or stolen. If your computer can not keep an internet connection, you should consider purchasing the dongle option.
2. To help you manage your license, we now have the "Softron License Manger" platform. Where you can view all your serial numbers at once, where they are activated, etc... This makes it much easier to know which license is where.
3. To protect and help you share licenses across users, in the "Softron License Manager" platform, as soon as you have added a license to your account, you become the owner of that license. And no one else can use it, even if they know it. And if you want other users in your company (or outside of your company) to be able to use your license, you simply assign them to some of your serials. Once assigned, they will see the serial in their own account, be able to use it. But when they are done, you can revoke the access to it and they won't be able to use it anymore.
4. The new "Application Licenses" window now centralises both the serial number and dongle licenses in one convenient window.
