Dongle Policy: Moving licenses

When you order a dongle, you can add as many licenses as you own to it. If you order your dongle and licenses at the same time, we’ll include everything on the dongle for you — no extra steps needed. If you already have licenses and want to add them to a dongle later, you’ll just need to make sure those licenses are deactivated before they can be migrated. Check the procedure on the dongle upgrade to know how licenses can be added to your dongles.

There are a few situations where you might want to move your licenses afterward:

• You ordered your licenses with the dongle option and they were added at purchase, but you now want to move some licenses to a different dongle or to a serial number.
• You purchased your licenses first and added a dongle later, migrating the licenses to the dongle, but now want to move some back to a serial number or to another dongle.
• You already had a dongle and bought additional licenses later, which were added to the same dongle — and now you’d like to split them onto another dongle or a serial number.

Moving licenses from one dongle to another, or between a dongle and a serial number, is possible as long as the licenses were not purchased as part of a bundle (bundled licenses cannot be split). However, because this process is very time-consuming for our team, if it’s not done when ordering a new software license (not when just ordering a dongle), an administrative fee will apply.
