When recording an interlaced source to Apple ProRes (Proxy), MovieRecorder forces it to be encoded in Progressive. This is because of quality issues when encoding in interlaced. Indeed, when encoding ProRes (Proxy) in interlaced, the encoder can create artefacts.
Apparently, the reason why the encoder can create artefacts is that when motion is lacking, the pixel content actually more closely resembles the properties of progressive content. With ProRes LT and up, there is enough headroom that using the interlaced encoding mode is not an issue, but with ProRes Proxy the difference can be noticeable.
We had a number of users that complained about these quality issues, so in order to get a better quality, we have decided to force the encoding to Progressive.
Don't hesitate to contact us should that be an issue for you.
