About the "loop recording" feature

Important note: the loop recording feature is still work in progress in M|Replay 2.2 pre-release. Make sure to read the limitations below and test thoroughly before considering using it.

What is the loop recording used for?

In M|Replay 2.2, we introduced the "loop recording" feature.By default, M|Replay sessions have a fixed preset duration. When you create the session, you set a duration, and when reaching that duration, the session ends, and recording stops.

But because M|Replay is so easy to use, we had the request to be able to use M|Replay, not only as an "instant replay" solution, but as a "time delay". When used in that type of workflow (and unless the time delay lasts for a few hours max), it usually means recording 24/7. 

The new "loop recording" feature allows you to do just that.

How to enable it?

When you create the session, just enable the following option:

What will happen then?

When the "Loop" recording option is enabled for a session, this will mean that when M|Replay will reach the end of the "Preset Duration", it will start recording again at the beginning of the recorded files and keep on recording as long as you don't stop the recording.

You can then set a "delay" for the playback, and M|Replay will continue to play with that delay for as long as you don't stop it. 

What are the limitations?

• You will "only" have available for replay as much media as the Preset Duration. In the screenshot above, you will be able to set a delay of maximum 1 hour. Thus you need to set the preset duration to the maximum delay you will need, and maybe a bit more. The maximum session duration is 25 hours (it was 9 hours in M|Replay versions before 2.2).
• When M|Replay starts writing again at the beginning of the files, it will delete the video and audio that was there. So if you had created clips or markers at these times, they won't be available anymore. So you will need to export the clips before the preset duration if you need to keep these.

Current status of the feature

At the time of writing, it's still work in progress in the pre-release of M|replay, possible known issues are:

• Resuming a session may not work. 
• We won't clear the markers and clips that were "overwritten", they will still show in the media browser and the playlist, but won't be usable. We will improve this.
