HOW TO: Retrieve and submit a Crash log from an iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod)

If you experience crashes with one of Softron's applications for iOS devices such as MovieRecorder Remote or OnTheAir Node Remote, below you will find  how you should procede to send these logs to us.

  • The first thing you have to do is to synchronize your device using iTunes. This will copy the crash log from your iPad, iPhone or iPod to your Mac.
  • Once you have synchronized you device using iTunes, you'll be able to locate the crash file here:
Users/{UserName}/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/{DEVICE_NAME}

 <USERNAME> is the user's login name for the computer. <DEVICE_NAME> is the name of the iPod touch or iPhone, for example, "John's iPhone".

  • You will see one folder for each iOS device that you've synced with this Mac. And within this folder you'll see all crashes from all applications that crashed. Locate the crash log that correspond to the application and the time that interest us and attach it to your ticket report.

Note that you can also find these crash logs in the "Console" application:

Note to Windows users

The procedure is the same except that the crash logs will be found here:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>
Windows Vista or 7: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>

<USERNAME> is the user's login name for the computer. <DEVICE_NAME> is the name of the iPod touch or iPhone, for example, "John's iPhone".
